When can a baby eat bell pepper?

When your baby can eat bell pepper depends on the capabilities of your little one to swallow and digest the vegetables. Small chunks of this vegetable might cause a choking hazard to children, who are less than four months old. However, they are considered to be a primary source of iron, vitamin C, vitamin A. Hence, you can start to feed your child with these vegetables when they attain the age of 6 months. 

It is recommended to serve these vegetables to your old baby once they develop some teeth so that it is possible for them to chew thinner strips of this vegetable perfectly. If the peel of the bell pepper is thick, it is recommended to remove the same with a paring knife or vegetable peeler.

How to introduce bell peppers to your baby?

Recipe 1 – Bell pepper with rice and chicken (age 6-8 months+)

Ingredients:

  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1.1 oz of rice (35 grams)
  • 2.2 oz of chicken (65 grams)

Instructions:

Step 1 – Wash the bell pepper well and remove the stem by cutting around it with a sharp knife.

Step 2 – Halve it lengthwise and remove the core and the seeds.

Step 3 – Grill the bell pepper until the skin blackens.

Step 4 – Put the bell pepper in a plastic (sandwich) bag and leave it to cool. The skin should now peel away very easily.

Step 5 – Cook the rice for about 8-10 minutes, until cooked.

Step 6 – Make sure the chicken is skinless, boneless and muscles etcetera are removed. Chop the chicken into pieces.

Step 7 – Cook the chicken in a saucepan with boiling water. After about 8-10 minutes the chicken will be cooked. Make sure there are no pink spots left. The white foam forming on top of the water is just protein, so don’t worry.

Step 8 – Add all the ingredients to a blender or magic bullet and mix them into a puree. Add a little water or formula if needed.

You can now serve the dish or pour it into small food storage containers to store or freeze the batch.

Recipe 2 – Bell pepper, zucchini and tomato (age 10-12 months+)

This tasty recipe is all about delicious veggies!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1/2 zucchini
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes

Instructions:

Step 1 – Wash the bell pepper well and remove the stem by cutting around it with a sharp knife.

Step 2 – Halve it lengthwise and remove the core and the seeds.

Step 3 – Grill the bell pepper until the skin blackens.

Step 4 – Put the bell pepper in a plastic (sandwich) bag and leave it to cool. The skin should now peel away very easily.

Step 5 – Wash the zucchini, peel off the skin and chop it into pieces.

Step 6 – Cook the zucchini for about 5 minutes.

Step 7 – Wash the tomatoes, cut them in half and remove the stem and core.

Step 8 – Peel the tomatoes.

Step 9 – Boil the tomatoes for 10 minutes.

Step 10 – Add all the ingredients to a blender and mix them into a nice, smooth puree.

Step 11 – Add some water or formula if the puree is too thick.

Serve this dish right away or store it in an ice cube form.

Recipe 3 – Bell pepper baby stew (age 8-10 months+)

The ingredients of this dish make the puree taste just like a stew! Perfect for baby’s dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1/2 an onion
  • 1 potato
  • 2.2 oz minced beef (65 grams)

Instructions:

Step 1 – Wash the bell pepper well and remove the stem by cutting around it with a sharp knife.

Step 2 – Halve it lengthwise and remove the core and the seeds.

Step 3 – Grill the bell pepper until the skin blackens.

Step 4 – Put the bell pepper in a plastic (sandwich) bag and leave it to cool. The skin should now peel away very easily.

Step 5 – Peel the potatoes, chop them in pieces and cook them for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 6 – Peel and chop up the onion and sauté them with some olive oil until they become golden and tender.

Step 7 – Cook the beef in a saucepan with boiling water for about 10 minutes. Make sure there isn’t a pink spot left.

Step 8 – Add all the ingredients to a blender. Add some water and mix them into a smooth puree. Don’t add too much water at once, the puree will become runny.

Your baby stew is now ready to be served!

Recipe 4 – Mexican bell pepper (age 8-10 months+)

Time to mix things up with this Mexican style recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of sweet corn (canned)
  • 2.2 oz of minced beef (65 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons of black beans (canned)

Instructions:

Step 1 – Wash the bell pepper well and remove the stem by cutting around it with a sharp knife.

Step 2 – Halve it lengthwise and remove the core and the seeds.

Step 3 – Grill the bell pepper until the skin blackens.

Step 4 – Put the bell pepper in a plastic (sandwich) bag and leave it to cool. The skin should now peel away very easily.

Step 5 – Cook the minced beef in a saucepan with boiling water for 10 minutes. Make sure there isn’t a pink spot left.

Step 6 – Cook the corn and black beans for about 5 minutes, until they’ve become soft.

Step 7 – Mix all the ingredients into a nice puree, using a blender or magic bullet. You can add a little bit of water or formula if the puree is too thick. But be careful not to make the puree too runny.
